This site is owned and run by me, Walt Robertson; I am the "Christian Geek" of the subtitle for this website. I don't have any degrees or accomplishments that one may say, "oh, I want to read what he has to say," or "I value his education and experience." So, why would anyone want to read about me or my life? I have no real clue. I will tell you that since I turned this site into a pseudo-blog in the early part of the 21st century, I have had a lot of repeat visitors from all over the world. I don't know who they are or why they are interested, but my stats tell me they are there. So, for those that care ...

Rev. Larry Allmon was a man of many careers. He was a pastor, a teacher, a school administrator, a Missions Director, a caretaker, an ESL teacher, and a gardener. But, his life-long trade skill was as a story-teller. Whenever Larry preached, or taught, or just "hung out" he would tell stories. And he was great at it. He was a loving husband to Margaret and father to my life-long friend Charlie, his brother and four sisters. He was friend to my parents and often dropped by to visit them. He was a friend to me and my wife, as well. I call him my spiritual mentor because he was the first pastor I remember, he was the one who baptized me as a child, he was the one who gave my wife and me pre-marital counsel, officiated at our wedding, and he lead us in weekly Bible study for several years. But, mostly, he taught me, by example, to love the Word of God and how to tell a story that captures the attention of your listeners. The first pastor I can remember is Larry. I remember him as kind and gentle. I remember being able to listen to him and understand him explain the Bible even as a 1st and 2nd grader. He had a way of keeping my attention and focus that few pastors or Bible teachers have - that remains true even later in my life. And Charlie was my best pal. We used to get in trouble running around the church together. We would slide under the pews and race around the hedges (killing the ivy). I loved going over to Charlie's house to play. |

The Salvation Army has elected a new General: "Commissioner Shaw Clifton has been elected to the office of General of The Salvation Army by the 2006 High Council. He will succeed General John Larsson who retires on 1 April."
The Salvation Army's top international leader is the position of "The General." The first General was William Booth, the founder, and each successive General has left their mark on The Salvation Army.
The most influential General of the century is usually agreed to have been General Eva Burrows who left a legacy of bringing The Salvation Army back into the world view as a Church Denomination (although they still refer to themselves and a "non-denominational movement" - but, it acts in all respects as a denomination). Subsequent Generals have tried to reestablish the position of the Army as an international social services agency to rival The Red Cross and other purely humanitarian non-governmental agencies (NGO).

One of the reasons I don't "blog" more often is because by the time I think of something clever or new to say about a subject, someone else has already said it, better, with more substantiation, and with letters after their name. Generally, that person is my 3rd place hero, Phil Johnson on his blog at Pyromaniac and I have very little need to add my 2c just to add them. Phil, however, has grown tired of being the point guy and taken on accomplices as of a few days ago. So far, very interesting stuff: Pyromaniacs. |

I've been surprised and grateful for the amount of product sold through the John Calvin store at CafePress. I have some new shirts that have been put up over the Thanksgiving weekend. |

I've upgraded this site to Joomla 1.0 over the weekend. I'm planning to keep customer sites on Mambo for the time being as there is a bug in the user Module section that I've patched for this site, but would be more comfortable with a core team release fix for customers. In other news...
